Suspicious Death in Alexandria Ruled Homicide,
Detectives Continue Investigation
The suspicious death of a 49-year-old Alexandria woman has been ruled a homicide. The victim, identified as Gail E. Collins, was discovered in her apartment at 3201 Landover Street on Friday, March 21. An autopsy performed on Saturday, March 22, determined that Ms. Collins died as a result of a gunshot wound.
Alexandria police had responded to the Aspen House apartment complex on Landover Street at 5 p.m. on Friday after Ms. Collins' family contacted police. Upon entering the apartment, police discovered the deceased victim. Initial investigation indicates that Ms. Collins had not been at work for several days, and that her employer contacted her family on Friday.
This is the first homicide in Alexandria this year.
