ALEXANDRIA POLICE INCIDENTS
TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2004
1200 blk. of Wythe St. 09-28/ 4:32 a.m. The victims, a 25-year-old male City resident and a 23-year-old male Fairfax County resident were both shot. Police were called to the Wythe Street address for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found two men suffering from gun shot wounds. Medic units transported the men to Inova Fairfax Hospital where they underwent further medical treatment. The 25-year-old was shot in the upper torso and his wounds appear to be critical. The 23-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and his condition is considered to be non-life threatening. Police and detectives continue to canvass the area for potential witnesses. A motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
1200 blk. of N. Quaker Ln. 09-28-04/ 1:20 a.m. Police were called for a report of subjects fighting with machetes. Officers found two victims, a 22-year-old male City resident and a 24-year-old male Fairfax County resident, in the parking lot, one with severe bruising of the face and ribs, the other with a cut on one hand. The more seriously injured victim was taken by ambulance to Inova Alexandria Hospital, where he was reported in good condition. The other victim refused treatment. Both victims reported they were attacked by a group of approximately 20 black and Hispanic males who beat them with baseball bats. During the assault, one of the suspects pointed a shotgun at them. The suspects drove up in a white Acura, a white Geo Tracker and a maroon Caprice. A few minutes later, patrol officers observed the white Acura at Glebe Road and Commonwealth Avenue. Officers stopped the car and subsequently identified the two occupants as being involved in the assault. The suspects, Jose Duran, a 35-year-old male of 7332 Roberts Lane in Falls Church was charged with Malicious Wounding, Attempt Malicious Wounding and two counts of Brandishing a Firearm. The second suspect, a 15-year-old male of Fairfax County was charged with two counts of Malicious Wounding and one count of Criminal Gang Membership.
235 S. Van Dorn St. 09-28/ 1:17 a.m. Officers responded to an alarm at the business and found a window smashed out, a brick visible on the floor inside and some items apparently missing from the window display. The exact contents stolen from the display case is unknown at this time.
