ALEXANDRIA POLICE INCIDENTS

FRIDAY, JULY 8, 2005

FELONIOUS ASSAULT:

900 blk. of N. Alfred St. 07-08/ 3:00 a.m. The victim, a 37-year-old male City resident was shot in the buttocks. The victim was attempting to buy drugs from two men. During the drug buy, one of the suspects pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded money. The victim did not comply and ran away. As he did so, the suspect shot him. The two suspects ran after the victim and robbed him before fleeing on foot. Police and a medic unit were called and the victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was treated for his non-life threatening injuries.

CARJACKING/ROBBERY:

Intersection of N. Alfred and Montgomery Sts. 07-07/ 7:20 p.m. The victim, a 46-year-old male Maryland resident, was driving an ice cream truck and had stopped in the neighborhood. A man approached the opened side window and climbed inside. A struggle ensued inside the truck and the suspect managed to gain control of the victim's vehicle and drove it a few blocks. The struggle continued until the ice cream truck struck a parked car and stopped. The suspect then drove the truck another block and stopped again. The victim grabbed the keys from the truck, managed to escape and police were called. The suspect was apprehended and brought to police headquarters. Leonard Antonio Copeland, a 38-year-old of 3030 Manning Street in Alexandria, was later charged with Carjacking. The victim was not injured.

BURGLARY:

924 Queen St. 07-06/ 11:32 p.m. Witnesses reported that they observed three teenagers inside the business after hours. Police were notified and responded but the three subjects had already left the business. The suspects had entered the business by force through a side door. Once inside, the suspects stole money and left the area riding bicycles. The first suspect is described as a black male, 14-16 years old, 5'11" - 6'1", 165-175 pounds and was wearing a hat and a white t-shirt. The second suspect is described as a black male, 12 years old, 5', 100 pounds and was wearing a dark shirt. The third suspect is described as a black female, 15-16 years old, 5'3" - 5'5", 90-100 pounds and was wearing a white shirt, white pants, and a white turban on her head.

GRAND LARCENY AUTO:

800 blk. of W. Glebe Rd. 07-05/ 5:30 p.m. - 07-06/ 7:30 a.m. Stolen: 1987 Chevrolet Celebrity, 4 door, grey.

Unit blk. of S. Bragg St. 07-07/ between 12:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Stolen: 1991 Mercury Marquis, 4 door, grey.
