Know Your City

FOREWORD

Alexandria is a vibrant, ever-changing city steeped in tradition, striding forward, reaching backward, endeavoring to retain the charm and coveted qualities that enrich its heritage and culture. We, in the Alexandria League of Women Voters, are proud of our more than 50-years of community activism in a city noted for its strong citizen involvement. Since 1975, the League has cooperated with the City to produce this Know Your City guide. As you read the guide, you will discover the wealth of resources and services available to Alexandria
residents and you will quickly come to appreciate the many opportunities for volunteer service, cultural enrichment, and recreational pursuits that give Alexandria its reputation for diversity and character.

In addition to describing the work of the city government and volunteer organizations, Know Your City also provides information on that most important civic duty--registering to vote and voting. We hope you will use the guide to learn about the community and find ways to get involved.
