The
Target Tent Event is an annual project that raises many needed
items for the City's Domestic Violence Safe House. Our 6th anniversary
'event under the tent' will be held this October at the Potomac Yards
Target on Jefferson Davis Highway in Alexandria.
Every year, staff and volunteers of the Alexandria Alliance Against Domestic Violence (AAADV) pass out wishlists
to the customers entering Target and ask them to, "think of the domestic
violence victims and their children while they're shopping". As
the customers leave, volunteers will direct them to the tent where the
customers can drop off their tax-deductible donation, pick-up literature
on family violence, and enjoy coffee, donuts, and candy. There is also
face painting for the kids (and kids at heart)! The items are then distributed
throughout the year to survivors of abuse and their children, who live in
the city of Alexandria.
Since the annual event began in October 2000, AAADV has raised over $20,000
in clothing, personal and home items, toys, and gift certificates, all
bought by shoppers at the Potomac Yards' Target store.
The 'Target Tent Event' has since been replicated in other areas of
Virginia, with similar outstanding results.
AAADV wants to thank Target, its customers, and the Potomac Yards property
management team, for making our annual event such a great success! For
more information, please contact the Safe House at (703) 838-4911.
