Welcome to the City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Class and Program Registration Information Page. Returning users and new users will find our Class and Program Registration page new and improved.

In order to accommodate all participants, we have four different ways to register for Recreation Classes, Camps and Activities: Drop Off , Mail-In , Telephone Registration and ON-LINE . Additional information and links follow below. If you still have questions please contact the Program Office at 703.519.2166 (TTY 703.519.2167), Monday through Friday 9 AM to 5 PM.

How To Register:
Registration for all programs begins on Monday, March 17, 2008.
Complete all information on the registration form including signature.
Make Checks payable to: The City of Alexandria.

Payments are deposited upon receipt. Confirmation of registration is mailed within five business days. If a class is full, a wait list is generated and individuals on the wait list will be contacted if a space becomes available. If you do not receive a confirmation by mail, please call the Program Office to confirm status of registration at 703.519.2166.

Due to the volume of class registrations, we regret that drop off registrations are not processed immediately. Staff reserves the right to cancel a class that does not meet minimum registration numbers.

Registration Deadlines:
Classes that have not met the minimum number of enrollees are cancelled approximately one week before the start date. Participants are notified of cancelled classes by phone or email. A credit is issued to the Household unless a refund is requested. Please allow 4-6 weeks for refund.

Registrations received after a deadline date are processed on a space available basis and are considered late registrations. Late registrations will only be accepted at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center. Late registrations may not attend class with-out a class receipt.

  • Mail In:Complete a Registration Form and mail to City of Alexandria Chinquapin Recreation Center, Department 34806, Alexandria, VA 22334-0806. Make checks payable to "City of Alexandria". Mail-in registration takes at least 5 days to process.

  • Drop Off: Complete a Registration Form and Drop Off at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center, 3210 King St. Registrations can be dropped off at Chinquapin center in the PURPLE DROP OFF Registration Box located outside of the Chinquapin Program office beginning 9am on Friday, August 17. Drop off registrations, regardless of the date and time received, will be left in the box until they are pulled out for processing on Monday, August 20 at 9am. Drop off registration at anytime DOES NOT guarantee enrollment.

  • TELEPHONE (TELETRAC 703.838.4969): Tele Trac is the 24-hour automated  and convenient registration system that allows you to sign up for classes by telephone using your checking account number and Household ID number. Please follow the steps below.
    1. All registrants must have a Household ID Number and a password. Contact Chinquapin Park Recreation Center to obtain this information at 703.519.2166.
    2. Payments can only be made using your checking account. You must have your Check Number, Checking Account Number and Bank Routing Number Available.
    3. You must know the Activity Number and Section Number that corresponds with the class or camp for which you are registering. Reference the Recreation Department Brochure or class and camp listing on the web at alexandria.gov/recreation.
    4. Have the above information available and call 703.838.4969. The system will prompt you for the numbers.
    5. Continue to follow the instructions.
    6. When you have completed the registration process you will be given a receipt number. Please write this number down for your records.
    7. Confirmation of registration is mailed within five business days. For assistance, call the Chinquapin Program Office at 703.519.2166, Monday – Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM A brochure with more detailed instructions is available at the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center.

  • ON-LINE: A convenient way to register for classes and camps online in "real time". This will allow participants to browse program information, register and pay for programs via electronic check. If you have previously registered in an activity, program, class or camp, you can register online by using your Recreation Department Household ID number. If you do not know your Household ID number, call or visit one of the Department’s full time Recreation Centers or the Chinquapin Park Recreation Center. You may also apply for a Household ID number online by clicking the First Time or New User?” link on the bottom part of the On-Line web page.

    Fees:
    All fees must be paid in full and are due at the time of registration. Partial payment does not reserve enrollment. All checks and money orders are payable to the "City of Alexandria". You may use one form and check for family registrations.

    Nonresident Fee:
    A fee of $25 per person, in addition to the class fee, is required for all class sections. This fee is non-refundable except when class/activity is canceled by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities.

    Confirmation:
    Non web registrants receive a confirmation receipt by mail. If you do not receive a confirmation in the mail, please call to confirm receipt of registration.

    Refunds/Credits/Transfer Policy:
    All Refunds requests must be submitted in writing at least one week prior to the start of the activity in order to receive a full refund/credit. Requests received after this time are assessed a $10 service charge ($25 camps). All refund requests must be received no later than the date of the second class. All requests must be received in writing or use the below Refund, Credit or Transfer Form,. If an activity is full or cancelled, all participants are given an automatic refund unless a credit is requested in writing. Activities are cancelled one week prior to the start date if they have not met minimum enrollment. Refunds for cancelled activities are processed up to two weeks after the scheduled start of the cancelled activities. Refunds are made payable to the head of household. Please allow 4-6 weeks for refund.

    Private Swim Lessons:
    Advance registration is required. Checks and Money Orders are payable to the City of Alexandria.

    Supervision:
    Children must be accompanied by a parent to class and remain until instructor arrives. Swim lesson parents must return to upper level once class begins.

    Fee Assistance Program for City Residents:
    The Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities encourages participation in City programs from all City residents. If you, a member of your family or a friend would like to participate in programs or activities sponsored by this Department and are in need of fee assistance in order to participate, please contact the sponsoring program office for more detailed information .Class requests must be received at least two weeks prior to the start of a class.
