Alexandria Beautification Commission Announces 2008 Beautification Award Winners The Alexandria Beautification Commission announced the 2008Alexandria Beautification Award winners in a ceremony held on October 6 at the Alexandria Lyceum. The Honorable William D. Public Hearing on Proposed Renovation of Patrick Henry Recreation Center
The City of Alexandria’s Park and Recreation Commission will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 16, to discuss plans and ideas for the proposed renovation of the Patrick Henry Recreation Center. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Recreation Center, 4643 Taney Ave. A regular meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission will follow the public hearing. More information
FY 2009-2010 Alexandria Commission for the Arts Grant Program now Accepting Applications The Alexandria Commission for the Arts is pleased to announce a new online grant application process for all Fiscal Year 2009-2010 applications. The Commission will conduct grant workshops on Tuesday, September 23, and Wednesday, October 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dr. Oswald D. Durant Center, 1605 Cameron St. The workshops will provide information about the Commission’s programs; highlight specific information about its annual grant program, which provides funding for various arts programs; and describe the new online grant application process. 2008 Alex Awards presentation at a "Taste for Giving"
The Alex Awards, which recognizes individuals, organizations, schools and businesses that have made exceptional contributions to the cultural life in the City of Alexandria, will be presented at a “Taste For Giving” on Friday, October 24, 7-10 pm at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 N Union St. Annually, the awards are given in the following categories: Excellence in an Artistic Discipline; Excellence in Service to the Arts; Outstanding Contribution to Arts Education; and Innovative Partnerships between Businesses and the Arts.
