City of Alexandria to Host African Heritage Cultural FestivalEvent Features Grand Processional, All-Day Film Festival, Music, Food, and Exhibits The music, culture, and food of Africa takes center state as the City of Alexandria hosts the African Heritage Cultural Festival on Saturday, July 26, from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Market Square (301 King St). This free event, cosponsored by the City’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities and the African Heritage Cultural Festival Committee, will be held rain or shine. Alexandria Park and Recreation Commission Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Renovation of the Patrick Henry Recreation CenterThe Park and Recreation Commission held a community meeting on Thursday, July 17 to discuss plans and ideas for the proposed renovation of the Patrick Henry Recreation Center. Second Annual Film Festival The City of Alexandria will host its Second Annual Film Festival at the Lee Center’s Kauffman Auditorium (1108 Jefferson St.) from September 25 through September 28. This year’s Film Festival theme is “Politics in the USA,” featuring short films, features, and documentaries. The festival will also include a youth program component featuring junior filmmakers 18 and younger. Click her for additional Information.
Alexandria Commission for the Arts Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Revisions to the Acquired Art PolicyOn Tuesday, July 15, the Alexandria Commission for the Arts held a public hearing on the City of Alexandria’s Policy on Acquired Art. The purpose of the public hearing was to gather community input on proposed revisions to the City’s Policy on Acquired Art.
