City of Alexandria to Host Annual Cheerleading Exhibition The public is invited to attend the City’s Annual Cheerleading Exhibition, scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 13 at T.C. Williams High School, 3330 King St. The exhibition features preteen and teen cheerleading squads from the Charles Barrett, Charles Houston, Cora Kelly, Mount Vernon, Nannie J. Lee, Patrick Henry and William Ramsay Recreation Centers. More information |

City Announces New Fees for Youth Sport Participants
Effective January 1, 2009, the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities will be increasing fees as planned in Fee Resolution No. 2276, adopted by City Council on May 13, 2008. Fee Resolution No. 2276 provided for a $5 increase in registration fees for youth sports activities fully operated by the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities. The resolution also authorized the Department to charge a $5 field use fee per person, per sport, per season for all other youth leagues. More information

City of Alexandria’s Parks and Recreation Commission Schedules Public Hearing on Proposed Special Event Policies
The City of Alexandria’s Parks and Recreation Commission invites residents to attend a public hearing to review and receive comment on the proposed City of Alexandria Special Event Policies. The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center, 2701 Commonwealth Ave. Individuals who are unable to attend the public hearing can view the Proposed Special Event Policies on-line and send written comments to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, Attention: William Chesley, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria, VA 22314, or e-mail william.chesley@alexandriava.gov. City of Alexandria Reminds Dog Owners About Rules to Remember When Romping with Rover For many Alexandrians, there is nothing more fun than taking a walk (or a run) with their four-footed friend. The City of Alexandria reminds residents that there are specific City regulations to keep in mind when romping with Rover. According to City Code, dogs must remain on a leash, unless the area is marked as an off-leash Dog Exercise Area, and owners must clean up after their dogs. Violations of this code may result in fines. More information |

Public Hearing Scheduled for Pocket Park at 1 and 7 East Del Ray Avenue
The City of Alexandria’s Park and Recreation Commission held a public hearing to review and discuss the park plan for the property at 1 and 7 East Del Ray Avenue on Thursday, November 20 at 7 p.m., at the Dr. Oswald Durant Memorial Center, 1605 Cameron St. Individuals who were unable to attend the public hearing can send written comments to the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities, Attention: William Chesley, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria, VA 22314, or by e-mail to william.chesley@alexandriava.gov by Monday, December 8.
