City of Alexandria Red Hatters The Royal Ruby’s of Alexandria Chapter, is a group of women 50 and older, who meet monthly, put on their wildest red hat, craziest purple outfit and let the good times roll. The Royal Ruby’s of Alexandria extend a red gloved hand in friendship and would love to see you at one of our events. Complete the registration form and mail to the Senior Programs/Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson St., Alexandria VA 22314. Nonresidents pay an additional $25 fee. the opportunity to get a complete
physical workout. Workouts are selfguided. Lunch Time Stretching Class Registration required. This class
teaches awareness of the body by
increasing flexibility through stretching
exercises. Yoga Classes Classes are open to the public. Mt. Vernon Recreation Center – 2701 Commonwealth Ave. – 703.838.4825 Tai-Chi-Chuan Participants learn the ancient
Chinese self-defense exercise that
emphasizes physical and mental balance,
coordination and sensitivity. For
the soul, it is a system of spiritual
meditation. Square Dance Program Beginners and experienced dancers
are welcome to join the fun! Art Class Students begin with sketching and
progress through the different mediums
of the visual arts at their own
pace. Jewelry Creations Seniors use psychomotor skills to
make assorted jewelry such as earrings,
bracelets, necklaces, key
chains, etc. Participants are encouraged
to provide their own materials. An on-going 10-week introductory
course designed to provide instruction
in word processing and graphics. Bridge & Pinochle Club Participants have the opportunity to
learn the games of bridge and
pinochle and play socially on a regular
basis. Nannie J. Lee Recreation Center – 1108 Jefferson St. – 703.838.4845 Senior Exercise Class This is a low impact body parts aerobic
exercise program that is based on
movements used in performing daily
activities and designed to increase
endurance, strengthen muscles and
improve flexibility (No Experience
Needed). A certified Nutritionist teaches this
class. Tai-Chi-Chuan Participants learn the ancient
Chinese self-defense exercise that
emphasizes physical and mental balance,
coordination and sensitivity. For
the soul, it is a system of spiritual
meditation. Dun Lo Arts Class Class provides seniors with instruction
in painting. Intermediate American Sign Language Participants continue to learn ASL
vocabulary and continue to explore
ASL grammar and etiquette. Deaf
Culture is explored as well as opportunities
to converse with native signers.
Field trip opportunities are provided,
both cultural and educational. Bridge Club Know when to hold them.... Know
when to fold them.
Come play cards with your neighbors
and friends in a relaxed and fun
atmosphere. Beginners and experienced
players are welcome to participate. William Ramsay Recreation Center – 5650 Sanger Ave. – 703.838.4826 Senior Strength and Conditioning Program A 10-week staff lead step-by-step program
offering guidance and motivation
in developing a personal fitness plan &
complete cardiovascular workout.
Participants meet twice weekly on
Mon, Wed or Fri. Program is ongoing. Registration required. Note: Participants will be required to consult with their physician prior to beginning the Senior Strength & Conditioning Program. Fort Ward Park – 4301 W. Braddock Rd. – 703.838.4831 Fort Ward Walking & Exercise Club On a regular basis, Walking & Exercise increases vitality, relieves pain, improves circulation and prevents injuries. The club meets every Wednesday at 9am beginning this September in Area 2 of the park.
